Welcome to Perth Pickleball Club
About us
The club was formed in September 2022 with the objective of promoting and developing pickleball in our local Perth & Kinross community and beyond, as affiliated members of Pickleball Scotland and the Sport for Change network.
Volunteer-led and Participant-centred
We are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit, community-based organisation committed to providing the highest standard of pickleball activity for all levels of ability. Our weekly sessions are devised with the overall objective of everyone having friendly social interaction whilst being physically active. Everyone is welcome and, as our club grows, we aim to make pickleball as accessible and inclusive as possible.
It can be daunting starting a new sports activity, but at Perth Pickleball Club we take pride in delivering friendly sessions that offer community-wide opportunities so that people from all walks of life can come along, give the game a try, have fun, and get active at a pace modified to suits each individual.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world
We want to promote and share the development of pickleball in Scotland. If you don't yet know what it's all about, come and join us to give it a try and play pickleball in Perth. In the meantime, here's some of the facts about this fantastic sport:
-
Invented in 1965 in the USA, pickleball is a mix-up of tennis, badminton and table-tennis.
-
Played with a solid-faced paddle and a perforated hollow ball over a modified tennis net, on a badminton-sized court.
-
Mostly played as doubles with four players.
-
Aim is to get the ball over the net and prevent the opponent from hitting it back. The game is usually played to 11 points.
-
Here in Scotland it's usually played indoors in community centres and gym halls.
-
In summer, the game's many health benefits are significantly enhanced when it can be played outdoors at recreational facilities with tennis courts (which can be easily adapted for pickleball) or Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs).
-
Pickleball encourages people to get active and live a healthier lifestyle.
-
Because of its socially inclusive and friendly ethos, as well as the simple, easy-to-learn rules and scoring system, new players can get started straight away and co-learn through Pickleball Scotland's 'Game On!' approach.
Why play pickleball? It's good for you!
